History
- CASA officially stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates and it represents the voice of a child in Child Protective Services court cases.
- The National CASA program began in Seattle, Washington when Superior Court Judge David Soukup started training volunteers in the community to be the voice of a child in 1976.
- Later in 1982 National CASA was officially formed.
- Now the National CASA Program has 930 CASA programs all across the United States.
- The Texas CASA program began in 1989 and now there are a total of sixty three CASA programs operating in Texas.
- CASA of Walker County was established in the Fall of 2004 and it began working on cases in February of 2005. They currently have about 34 active volunteers to represent the 60 children that they help serve.
