The primary goal of the Good Shepherd Mission in Huntsville, Texas: is to provide hope for the hopeless, meeting basic human needs, based
upon New Testament teachings of Jesus Christ. This mission was founded
by an ecumenical, interdenominational alliance of local ministers in 1983.
Local Church laity serve as Board Members. The individuals are elected
by their church. The staff is less than 10, but uses over 20 volunteers. The Good Shepherd Mission will continue to serve people in need. There
is a continued VISION to find better ways to serve. One goal that
is being researched is to start a home delivery of groceries to disabled
and elderly who lack transportation in rural county areas. Another
goal is to build a food storage warehouse by utilizing volunteer labor
and a local trade school. Another goal is to expand our role in Welfare
Reform and building upon our State Contract to help more in greater ways
end their dependency upon the Welfare System. Still another goal
is enhancing effective communication among Human Services Professionals
here in Walker County, including churches and service clubs. It is a blessing to serve and see others blessed through the Good Shepherd Mission. Volunteers provide most of the work, but get many blessings. Success stories occur daily in spite of our short comings. Lives are changed, families are helped further down the road, hunger is satisfied, thirst is quenched, and nakedness is clothed because some one cares. Together, it is working. |
