The Good Shepherd Mission

The primary objective is to give those in need hope, meeting basic human needs, based upon New Testament teachings of Jesus Christ. Counseling and referral counseling is available at no charge, appointments preferred.

We strive to give those in need hope. People in crisis are desperate and their needs are more than physical. A host of volunteers, 12 part time staff and one director serve over 1,600 people in one way or another - each month. Office hours are from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Bargains and Blessings Thrift Store hours are 9:00am - 3:00pm M-F, Pay day Saturdays 10:00am - 2:00pm. Crises and emergencies are handled as needed and resources available. This ministry is an extension of local churches for Walker County and those traveling through.

A first goal, that is being researched, is to start a home delivery of groceries to disabled and elderly who lack transportation in rural county areas.

A second goal is enhancing effective communication among Human Services Professionals here in Walker County, including churches and service clubs. It is a blessing to serve and see others blessed through the Good Shepherd Mission. Volunteers provide most of the work, but get many blessings.

People in crisis are desperate and their needs are more than physical.  We now have two full time employees, and 10 part time, and about 50 different volunteers each week at various jobs of working the front desk issuing vouchers, sorting donations of food and clothing, and helping on the grounds with the garden or specific projects.

A major need for volunteering is helping develop groups for sober living accountability groups which include Celebrate Recovery and other Christ-Centered 12 step groups as well as round table Bible Study from 7a.m. to 8a.m. and 7p.m. to 8p.m. daily.
